Joining a Boarding House can be an exciting and nerve racking experience. Knowing just what to bring before hand can reduce some of the stress before your arrival.
At TIS boarding we hope that your boarding dorm becomes as comfortable to you as your room at home. We encourage students to bring personal touches to help create an environment that shows off their personality and helps them to settle into the community. It is likely that you will be sharing a room in the dorm so you need to be mindful of how much you bring and how it will affect your roommates. Therefore your puppy dog or large furntiure is probably best left at home. Lamps, Storage containers, desk chairs, bedding linen, stuff teddies, games, photos, music player are all suitable items to bring and should help students to take ownership of their space.
The other area where you need to be prepared is in clothing and toiletries. The good news is there are shops in Macau and it may be more suitable to buy things here instead of bringing them to and fro each time you return home. An ideas list is presented below but students are able to bring as much as they wish (fits in the cupboard and is not over airplane baggage allowance)
My clothes list for boarding
students have 2 uniform, 2 casual and 1 linen wash a week.
Uniform We have a uniform shop on site.
School uniform 4 shirts, 2 pants shorts or skirt, socks and black school shoes. Jacket, sweater, tights for winter
PE uniform, socks and shoes (amount will be dependent on class structure)
Sports related equipment for school teams
For 5 days, this should be appropriate for playing sport, socialising with friends and clothes for special events (formal dinner, school excursions, experience week)
Underwear and pyjamas
Shoes and socks
Warmer clothes for winter
Umbrella, water proof jacket
Shower towel and sports towel
Toiletries Students will have the opportunity to visit shops weekly to replenish these.
In our Boarding Community at TIS we hope this becomes a second home and the boarders a second family, if your still not sure what to bring feel free to have a look at what other boarders have when you come to visit. One of the best things about boarding is if you forget something it is likely some else has one you can borrow, an advantage of living with your peers.
