Empowering Independent Lifelong Learners

Mar 28, 2024

Students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6 recently took centre stage, stepping into the role of teachers at our highly anticipated student-led conferences (SLC)! During SLC, our young learners confidently lead engaging discussions, showcasing their impressive work portfolios and engaging parents in meaningful conversations, while teachers provide support as facilitators.

These conferences serve as a powerful statement to the incredible growth, development and self-discovery happening within our primary school. They provide parents with the opportunity to witness firsthand how students take ownership of their own educational journeys, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility over their learning, actively planning and setting meaningful goals. Moreover, it also gives parents the chance to learn how best to support their child’s education at home.

In our commitment to keeping parents informed about their child's educational progress, we synchronised the student-led conferences (SLCs) for primary students with the Parent-Teacher Interviews (PTIs) for secondary parents, emphasising our dedication to family engagement. By synchronising the SLCs and PTIs, it allowed for both primary and secondary parents to actively engage in their child's academic performance, receiving valuable feedback, gaining insights into their learning experiences at TIS, and nourishing collaboration between parents and teachers. By bridging the gap between home and school through these coordinated efforts, we empower students to reach their full potential while fostering a sense of shared responsibility and partnership among parents, teachers, and the school community.

TIS  student-led conferences not only celebrate achievements but also provide a platform for students to showcase their knowledge, skills, creativity, and love for learning. Through these conferences, we hope to promote the growth of independent learners who eagerly share their enthusiasm for the pursuit of knowledge.
